Grandma Sharbaugh talking to Papa Sharbaugh while doing her hair: Norm, where's my little squirt thing?
Emma from across the room: I'm right here!

Papa Sharbaugh was writing his name with Emma...
"My name is Norman, but my nickname is Norm. You are Emerson, but your nickname is Emma."
"Uh, no. I'm Tooty Magee!"

Emma: Doggie.
Andy: No, you say perro in Spanish.

talkin' smack

While playing soccer with daddy in the living room...

Emma: Um... I need a goal.
John: Well, just shoot between my legs. Use my legs as the goal.
Emma: I'll use your FACE as a goal.....but don't worry. I won't hurt you.

*I seriously wish you could have experienced this live with us and the eruption of laughter thereafter.

first actual joke

*this came about after she had seen a bunch of dogs around our apartment recently--of all sizes.

"What did the big puppy say to the little puppy?....You look like a chewy toy!!"

perfect

Emerson was playing with her kitchen and making food for a picnic. As she was setting the plates for each person, I overheard the following...

One for mommy...
and daddy...
and emma...
and malachi...
and baby brother.

So thankful that to her Malachi is still a part of this family. Brings tears to her mama's eyes.

spacial awareness

Mommy: Emma, do you want Daddy to buy us a house?
Emma: YES!?!? (drops hands to her waist in defeat)... but it won't fit in the car.

evening service

We had Emerson sit in the evening service with us tonight at church. Toward the end, like every other two-year-old, she started getting a little antsy. I quietly explained to her that there would be one more song, pastor would talk some, then he would pray and we would be all done.

Pastor ended his prayer, "And all God's people said..." to which the congregation responded, "Amen." Emma said nice and loudly, "Amen? Now we can go!"

When going through a bag of clothes, Emma put a new bra on her head.

Daddy: Emma, is that a hat?
Emma: No, it's mommy's booby thingy.

cartoons

If I have the TV on during the day while Emerson and I are at home and I am watching something that doesn't exactly pique her interest, she will cuddle right up and almost bat her eyes at me while saying, "Mommy, this is not an emma-sized show." (in hopes that I will appease her and change the channel).

this "emma-sized" saying has also translated to other areas (books, games, activities, etc.)

couple quick pics

I love that for only a VERY brief moment, Emma saw the tubes and equipment which Malachi depended on for his every breath and means of nutrition. She quickly, quickly taught me a lesson in unconditional love. Her love for Malachi never ceased to amaze me. She was proud to be his big sister and to have him as her baby brother.

(pic taken Mother's Day 2010)

Another mother's day pic taken while Miss was posing for pictures on her windowsill. Can you really go wrong with toddler skirts and leggings... I will miss this.

lost in translation

I kissed Emma really hard on the cheek and said "k. Now you give daddy a big smackeroo!". She turned and hit him as hard as she could on his back! Guess I needed to be clearer.

nicknames

Emma just "passed gas" and said with a smile, "I Tooty Magee"

a sponge

Emma will pick up her imaginary camera, bring it to her face, and state "Everybody say 'Awkward'."

John and I had no clue where she had gotten that from, UNTIL we saw the new progressive insurance commercial.

CHEESE!!!

dreaming?

This morning at around 5:00 a.m. John woke up to find Emerson sitting on the floor near my side of the bed. Her head was down. Creepy. John asked, "Emma, what are you doing and how long have you been sitting there?" She slowly stood to her feet and just started at us. Even creepier! Wanting to verify that it wasn't some creepy demon, I asked, "Are you really Emma?" (She said something in reply, but John and I were too out of it to remember exactly what it was.) Then, she crawled up into bed with me for the next couple hours.

When John's alarm went off for him to get up and get ready for work, Emma stated matter-of-factly, "I need to get my socks and shoes on." John said, "Um, why do you need your socks and shoes?" Emma's response: "So we can go get tacos."

Random.

pay the bills (part II)

John ran our rent check to the apartment office. Emma didn't realize he had left. She was running around our home "Where'd daddy go??" I replied, "He went to go pay the bills." Without skipping a beat, "Oh, he go to work."

Close, Emma. Close.

pretty mama

As I was getting ready in front of the bathroom mirror, Emma came in to offer her two cents...

"You're pretty mama. That shirt is SO pretty. You are pretty too. And fluffy. And smelly... And yucky..."

Thanks, Punkin'

a common occurence

When I [mommy] am sitting on the floor with Baby Chi, Emma will come put her arm around my shoulder and say, "Yeah. He likes us."

Thursday, April 8, 2010

shhh...

So since Emma's trip to Georgia, it's been hard to get her to go poop in the potty. So, we bribe. (Okay, so her reward has always been a piece of candy in return for number two in the potty._ Well, now instead of just using candy as a reward, the lack of candy has also become a consequence for going in her diaper. When we see poo in the dipe, no more candy for Emma 'til she goes in the toilet again.

Today, she went in her diaper.
Daddy came home.

Emma (already knowing the answer): "Daddy, where's my bag.. with the eggs?"
John: I don't know.
Emma: It's in the kitchen.

John: Sorry Emma. Mommy said that you went poopy in your dipe today. No candy.
Emma: (walking away defeated)

Next thing I know, Emma comes running out of our room into the living room with me chewing on something.
Mommy: Emma, what are you chewing?
Emma: (whispering) Don't tell mommy. Daddy say that.

We need to get into showbusiness

Emma: But I don't have any horsies.

funny sayings

When we get to our floor on the elevator, Emma states, "This is us!"

---

toilet paper = poilet taper
chocolate = cha-lock-o-late
cinnamon = cin-min-a-min-a-min

---

While talking on the phone...
Me: Emma, who are you talking to?
Em: Baby Chi.

Em: Hi, Baby Chi. I need to talk to your nurse.

Em: Baby Chi, it's me! and mommy! and daddy! I love you! I miss you!

---

When visiting Malachi, she calls him "little buddy".

--

We've been working on sign language with her since Malachi is most likely deaf. We have refreshed signs we used with her before she could talk and have also added quite a few to her vocabulary...

please, thank you, eat, more, sorry, mommy, daddy
"signing time with alex and leah", emma
kitty, bird, dog, fish, snake
blue, yellow, red, purple, pink, green, white
sit, stand, swing, swim, come, play, share, your turn, my turn, go, stop, yes, no
potato, grapes, cookie, carrot

it begins...

We recently got Emerson a piggy bank...

Me: Emma, what are you going to do with all that money in your piggy bank?
Em: Clothes.

Taking things too literally

Emma has been spending the first part of the week down in Georgia getting spoiled rotten with Grandma Kathy and her great-grandparents...

After an eventful afternoon, Emma's great-grandma sat down in her recliner, kicked her feet up, saying "I'm pooped! You wore me out, Emma. I'm just POOPED!"

Emma replied, "You poopy like me??"

Thursday, March 11, 2010

just informed

Emerson doesn't really have an earache. Her "hair is hurting."

Sunday, March 7, 2010

full of compliments

Mommy, you're beautiful... Mommy, you're the most beautiful girl in the world...

well... in our house.

head bopping

John and Emerson bopped heads. John started pretend crying as if he were hurt.

Emma came over saying "It's okay. I right here. It's okay, baby"

John: (whimpers) Thank you.

Emma: Uh, thank you MOMMY.

____

Same type of scenario with John and Emma hitting heads... only this time, Emma hit John on the sensitive part of the bridge of his nose, actually hurt.

John: (whimpering)
Emma: It's okay, buddy.
John: No, punkin' that hurt. You hit me in the nose.
Emma: (scoffs) I hit my head TOO (translation: suck it up!)

missing bread

John went to make himself and emma sandwiches for lunch today, but found that our "good bread" was moldy...

John: Emma, have you seen the other bread?

(no response)

John keeps searching. Went to find phone to call Marissa. Unable to find phone. "Ugh, where is it??"

Emma: (condescendingly) In. The. Kitchen. (in regard to the bread).

...

Emma was carrying her grocery basket full of food and dishes and kept saying
"i gonna bring this to Jesus...
I gonna bring this to Jesus...
I gonna bring this to Jesus because...
Jesus loves me."

Makes her mama melt!

preach it!

We've been keeping Emma in with us during the morning services at church instead of putting her in 2's and 3's and taking a chance of her getting sick. So far, she's been doing a pretty good job. If she were to get a little too rowdy, we would take her out of the auditorium at least... anywho...

Pastor was preaching on prayer and he gradually kept getting louder and louder encouraging those in attendance in their prayer lives saying, "We NEED to PRAY!!"

Emma shouts out, "I pray with you!!!"
